Darkfall has been designed from the outset as a full-loot PVP game, meaning on death players are able to fully loot other players of their gear and gold on their person. The ability to fully loot other players has been factored into the game as an important facet of the RTS-like logistical meta-game between warring clans.
The ability to fully loot other players is a significant departure from other, contemporary MMORPGs, such as World of Warcraft and EverQuest II, in which the quest for better gear is the primary driving force for of player character improvement once maximum level has been attained. In Darkfall, character skills are the primary driver of character improvement, and while gear is expected to have some influence in determining a player character’s overall power, it will be of greatly diminished importance compared to other MMORPGs. In some respects the looting system of Darkfall resembles that of EVE Online, which allows players to loot much of a destroyed ship’s gear from the wreckage.
Friendly fire and collision detection are always in effect in Darkfall. Combined with a real-time combat system, Darkfall’s combat is anticipated to provide a more realistic combat experience than other fantasy MMORPGs. The developers have opined that historically successful battle formations and tactics will be widely adopted and adapted for use in Darkfall. Likewise, area-effect spells and abilities affect enemies and allies equally, and so must be used with caution and discretion.

Does anyone else feel like the combat in Darkfall although first person and full loot is just too twichy and unrealistic. I watched a few videos and of Ky KY who is pretty much one if not the best pvpers in Darkfall currently. I fought against him once I think. My issue with Darkfall is that the combat is so unrealisitic. So much of the game is about realism that creates immersion like full loot and long travel times and first person combat (mostly). I just can’t get over the fact people sprint back and fourth and jump 50 times while doing backwards spins and sprint for a relatively long time.
In real combat that would be impossible combined with exhaustion.
I don’t know if you can make combat movement slower and keep it fun because there are skills involved in dodging by what ever means. I think with smart and creative devs you can.
What I am trying to say is that I am very disappointed that the skill involved in Darkfall pvp is contingent on extreme twitchy combat and constant movement.
I don’t hate Ky Ky and others for being really good at the game by mastering the technique to win in Darkfall pvp but I hate the technique needed to do just that.
I have really yet to see a MMO that takes collision detection to a place were it should be and that is formations. Clogging passage ways and such is alright DF/WAr ect. But were are these huge battles with formations and lines with different combination of troops. I would love to see that really mean something. I been out of the game for like 1 and 1/2 months so maybe this has changed a lot.
