10 simple changes to make Darkfall better

1) un-nerf the PVE. PVE *has* to be viable, and *has* to be a better way of skilling up compared to bloodwalling. Their slowness on changing this has been their biggest mistake. No matter what people say, *most* players don’t want to PVP 100% of the time, the game needs the PVE to be there when you’re not PVPing.

2) skills, especially melee skills. Darkfall needs more. Not *many* more, just a few more. I would make it an option to click to load+use skill versus click to load, click to use.

3) differentiate melee weapons and armour more. blunt weapons shouldn’t have the same skills as axes or swords or polearms. light armour should have higher base movement, heavy armour have more penalties. higher quality = fewer penalties. light armour should be viable. introduce crossbows sometime.

4) moongates/teleports. add them. moongates add PVP chokepoints + less tedious travel at the cost of high ambush risk. Darkfall has a wonderful day/night sun/moon cycle - use it! tie the gate activities to the moons.

5) make ships more affordable, especially the lower end ones. it’s a bit of a shame there isn’t more larger rivers and harbours inside the agon mainland, but hey, no big deal. Add more NPC-controlled harbours for people to craft small-medium boats at. ships should be more accessible.

6) add a “craft all” button.

7) make mounts have the small alignment as their current rider.

8) looting non-clan/non-group graves makes you grey for 10 secs. looting another corpse that isn’t yours while grey makes you grey for 2 mins.

9) add more incentives to fight opposing races, like a race-wide bonus system.

10) add more depth to the resources system. there should be regional-only resources as well as common ones (wood/ore/stone).

darkfall’s next major patch will be at the first week of July. darkfall ’s na server will be launched at July 7th

so i will tell something about the darkfall update at june 24

it contains something about na server and the character transfer problems

about Clarification:

American players wanting to clone and transfer their characters do not have to buy another client. Everyone else needs to buy the American Darkfall client to play on the American server. The European rights and the American rights to Darkfall do not belong to the same company, therefore you cannot freely transfer between the two territories, as is the case with most MMORPGs. Our offer of character cloning / transfer to American players is because we had said that we would try to accommodate them should they want to start playing on the European server.

On the American server: The American server will launch on July 7th. Characters from the European server can be cloned and moved without their possessions 3 months after the American launch. Certain restrictions and charges will apply, to be announced at a later date. In the meanwhile if you want to play on the American server at launch you need to buy the American Darkfall client. More information on the American server will be available in a few days.

Darkfall will launch a massive free expansion update the first week of July, something that the Darkfall team has been working on for a while now. This expansion includes major new features and major content, PvE, and PvP updates.

In the last few patches we had implemented several major optimizations making it possible to support even larger battles and sieges and more concurrent users than ever before. As a result, massive battles now run smoother than ever. We’ve seen some of the largest and the highest frequency of massive battles this past month, which has helped us find even more ways to optimize the Darkfall experience.

As a result of these optimizations we’ve also been able to keep sales open most of the time. We’re still being careful because Darkfall resubscription rates remain very high even though this is a time for exams and/or vacations. It’s still difficult to buy Darkfall but we hope that after the US servers have launched it will be easier for new players to learn about and to buy Darkfall.

To that effect, a new site is coming, along with new forums for Darkfall players only. These forums will be readable by the public and only players with active accounts will be able to post in them. The current public forums will remain active for anyone to post in, but moderation will be stronger. This because we’re getting people from other communities with the sole intention of disrupting our forums. The Darkfall community has always been a source of good feedback, constructive criticism, and inspiration for the Darkfall developers and we’ll keep it that way by doing away with the non-constructive elements.

Our next major patch will be included in the Darkfall expansion the first week of July.

some darkfall problems should be fixed

darkfall has many problems, so it should be fixed asap.

There are quite a few things you should also do before a NA release and advertising.

PvE
Fix PvE by increasing the number of mobs found outside of starter areas and reduce the HP of them drastically. You should also make it so that all items found on mobs have 100% durability 100% of the time but at a reduced overall durability. This does not include high end mobs for late game.

Resources
You also need to add some random rare nodes outside of clan cities, random mines, stone quarries, farms, ect. and add larger nodes with increased ore, wood, and stone out put in the wilderness… Give people an incentive to go out and farm in the wilderness, make it so you have Large Metal nodes and Large Trees out in the wilderness providing three ore/wood per hit, instead of one.

Wilderness Banks
Put some wilderness banks more sporadically around the world. Make some banks near chaos stones not protected by towers so reds can gear up after they die and reduce down time.

Alignment System
Rethink the flagging system… Make it so you go gray for 20-30 seconds when you hit someone, taking away the ability for people to just hit you and wait 10 seconds by the time you get to them they’re already blue and just repeating it. If a new player hits someone and turns gray they can easily run for 20-30 seconds and get away. After you kill someone make it so you stay red for at least two hours to prevent them from just killing a couple reds and going right back to grieving others. You could also make it so that there is no -100 to +10 alignment system and go the way of others and just making it a certain time period so that people don’t have to remake every time they go red for killing one person who was stealing their loot or just messing with them for an extended amount of time… This of course would have to be play time only, they can’t just log out and wait.

Forum
You guys should really scrap these forums and the website and create new ones in their place. You will find that having an out dated site and a forum full of people trolling will push quite a few people away from the game. You should also be a lot more hardcore about deleting troll/hate threads, you are allowing one person to potentially sway 5+ people from buying the game by reading one thread. You need to add a newcomers section to the forum like you had before. You will have a lot of new people who haven’t heard about the game yet, and if you let them dive into advanced discussion you might turn them off of the game instantly. You should make a guide readily available on the main site and on the forums, and link players too it after buying the game. You could also make it so people can register their Game Account to their Forum name which would give them a Subscribing Player title below their name, or a One Subscribing Player below their name. This would prevent a lot of unreliable flame post coming from people who have never played the game.

Exploits/Cheating/Hacking
You should also try as best you can to fix exploits, cheating, and hacking. People will find this a huge turn off like they did when EU was released. You lost quite a bit of people due to these things.

Skill Gaining
It would also be a good idea to reduce the skill gains from attacking other players by 50% and increase the skill gain on monsters by 200% from the current. Doing this will increase the amount of people out in the world, thus increasing PvP and experience.

Clan City Towers
Remove the clan city towers, one of the most fun things to do in darkfall is sneak around clan cities and kill afk macros. You have completely taken away one of the real PvP aspects of the game by making it impossible to have a small raid on a enemies city.

Clanstone Recall
I know a lot of you might not like this one but it should be introduced to help travel across the huge world and aollow players to meet other people other then the ones in their clan. This would be to separate a Clanstone recall and Bindstone recall, increasing the ease of world travel, and increasing the ease of newcomers to your game. A lot of people will find it very hard to get across the world unless you do this and will be turned off from your game.

Cloths
You could also create some type of starter cloths to give people some sort if individuality, these cloths would offer absolutely no benefit other then looks. You would but different colors from merchants like you would the starter weapons. Despite what some might think, this could actually help peoples overall experience by not seeing a bunch of naked players at the start of the game.

Starter Weapon Skill Gain
You also need to reintroduce skill gain by starter weapons. The only thing you’re doing by not allowing this is confusing new players, and making it harder for them to catch up to others who have played longer. You could reduce the amount of skill gained by these to move others to use crafted weapons or weapons found on monsters.

Advertise
After you do all of these things, you need to ADVERTISE THE GAME!!!! You’ll get so many more people interested, and make them acknowledge the game. Contact TV shows, magazines, and websites to review your game, they would more then gladly do it.

Sprinting
Another thing would be to fix the Sprinting system. Sprinting is used non stop in melee fights which ends up just being a figure eight fight when you hardly ever see your opponent. Make it so the suggested special sprint bar that would deplete at a quick rate, or make it so you can’t even sprint while swinging your weapons/casting… That would fix a lot of it and you could still run away from opponents.

This is all I can think of now, and I’m sure everyone has their own ideas. Which of course they will post below.

many people hate darkfall,but i really like darkfall
one man in the darkfall forum says that:

i pay more to play this mmorpg then anyother yet it has the player base of a counterstrike server

the only players i can find to kill are naked harvesters now and the same 3 hackers that constantly exploit for gold at beastmen

the hacking/teleporting/speed is kind of annoying since supposedly it is detectable and they are all being banned… they have been reported by many players and yet the last 2 weeks they have not left the beastmen spawn

but i cant really blame them for using the exploits to kill mobs since you have 2 ways to farm gold in this game, play fair and kill skeletons, kobold, goblins, and maybe windlords or hobgoblins with a decent group and make like max 300 gold an hour or you could mount up and kill mobs through walls for tons of gold

since fighting them without a mount is completely ineffective since the loot you get pays for the mass regs, arrows, and armor/weaps you go through just to kill one mob with insane hitpoints who then drops a weapon and piece of armor with already terrible durability

you know what else is quite aggrivating the lack of information we get from adventurine im a NA player but im still playing after the announcement of NA-1 because i would like to transfer yet i have yet to hear any details about the terms of the transfer and exactly how long id have to wait

just thought id share my thoughts on games current status since its to sad to play in its current state

i think darkfall company should make the game better and better
it should fix the most bugs

darkfall patch notes in june 10th

darkfall is getting better and better everyday

i like the pvp games, though mortal online is beta now

but i really like darkfall

join a guild ,and go to battle

We are continuing to issue permanent bans to anyone cheating through use of 3d party programs. In some cases involving multiple account ownership we have banned all of the user’s accounts. Use of these programs has dropped significantly and to the point where there are very few players resorting to their use.

Today we issued a 24hour ban to 185 players that were still using auto loot scripts even after our last warning about them. We have also been issuing temporary bans to players exploiting the terrain and structures in the world. These temporary bans will lead to longer and eventually permanent bans to repeat offenders. We regret having to enforce our policies but we need to protect the player base from those that refuse to play fairly.

Just a quick patch this week mostly addressing existing issues:

  • Fix for issue where one or more chat tabs were selected without mouse button being pressed
  • Fix for system window placement persistence
  • Fix for party markers not always showing on the mini- and world maps
  • Fix for challenger marker not always showing on the mini- and world maps
  • Fix for various sound issues
  • The chat message when player joins a clan will now say who accepted him
  • Fixes to several quests
  • Fix for various client issues
